About

Presented in collaboration with experienced primary school educator Olivia Wells, HoD Curriculum and Inquiry at Fig Tree Pocket State School, this workshop is open to all primary school teachers.

The workshop will explore creative and transferrable pedagogical teaching methods inspired by Queensland Ballet’s 2024 production of Coppélia. Teachers will be led through Coppélia-inspired content to explore inclusive and accessible practices and pedagogical tools that can be placed into any lesson plan, in any learning area and at any point in your students’ learning journey.

The goal of the session? Spark curiosity for students to do the heavy lifting while teachers provoke, facilitate and observe.

Learning Aims

• Provide teachers with innovative teaching methods inspired by Queensland Ballet’s production of Coppélia that emphasise student-centred learning and can be applied across diverse learning areas and contexts.

• Equip teachers with pedagogical tools and strategies that promote inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring that all students, regardless of their abilities or backgrounds, can actively engage in the learning process.

• Enhance teachers’ abilities to provoke, facilitate, and observe student learning by sparking curiosity, promoting critical thinking, and encouraging students to take ownership of their learning.

Learning Outcomes

• Understand how to apply innovative teaching techniques to engage students in active learning experiences that foster creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression.

• Integrate inclusive teaching strategies to create learning environments that accommodate diverse learners and promote equity and accessibility.

• Enhanced proficiency in provoking student curiosity, facilitating meaningful discussions, and using probing questions to deepen student understanding and encourage independent inquiry, fostering a culture of student-driven learning.
