About the Film
Roger Vadim’s Les Liaisons dangereuses 1960 (1959) is a daring French drama that reimagines Choderlos de Laclos’ infamous 18th-century novel of intrigue, seduction, and betrayal. Starring Jeanne Moreau and Gérard Philipe, the film transposes the story’s dangerous games of love and power into a glamorous late-1950s Parisian setting, featuring a lively jazz score by Thelonious Monk and stunning black-and-white cinematography by Marcel Grignon.
Initially released to controversy both in France and overseas, due to its provocative and mature themes, this stylish, sensual adaptation is a must-see for cinephiles and art-lovers.
Panel Discussion
From 18th-century literature to mid-20th-century French cinema, to 21st-century ballet, each adaptation brings new creative choices and challenges.
Stay on after the screening for an engaging panel discussion – a rare chance to delve deeper into the creative process and discover how powerful themes and stories are transformed and reinvented across different art forms.
