‘Ensemble’

‘Ensemble’ is a trilogy of tall, dynamic columns gracing the forecourt of the Thomas Dixon Centre. The sculpture was made by Newcastle-born artist Jamie North. Made from slag, a by-product of iron, the industrial looking columns cascade with lush, native Queensland plant life.  

“I wanted ‘Ensemble’ to relate to the human body, and to have some kind of dynamism as you’d experience during a performance,”

The selected plants in each piece (including rock-felt fern, yellow cane orchid, and vines producing bell-shaped flowers) will become entangled with the inorganic concrete, creating a continuously evolving and living sculptural form.
