Giselle: Whispers of the Schwarzwald
In Germany’s misty Black Forest, betrayed Giselle rises from her grave to shield every heart that ever loved too fiercely.
Brisbane Ballet’s breathtaking reimagining fuses haunting Teutonic folklore with soaring pointe and liquid grace. A timeless romance reborn—dangerously alive. Feel your own heart awaken.
About
Step into the moon-drenched Black Forest, where fog curls like secrets around ancient pines and the air itself remembers lost love. Here, a village girl named Giselle once danced barefoot through wildflowers, her heart given wholly to a prince in disguise. Betrayed and broken, she died of a shattered soul… yet death could not silence her. On a single midnight, she rises—luminous, unstoppable—leading the ghostly Wilis in a moonlit rite of mercy and vengeance.
Brisbane Ballet transports the beloved 1841 classic to the haunted heart of Germany’s Rhineland. Choreographer Emrys Goldsworthy weaves spine-tingling Teutonic folklore with breathtaking virtuosity: razor-sharp pointe work melts into flowing, storytelling port de bras that trace every ache of the human heart. This is no museum piece. This Giselle pulses with raw, modern fire—intimate, dangerous, and achingly beautiful. When the Wilis glide toward you through silver mist, you’ll feel your own buried loves stir. Some stories are meant to haunt you forever. Let this one claim you.
