Heart of Nature

About

Throughout time, our understanding of love has been symbiotic with that of the natural world. The heart of nature explores our relationships with nature, and the reflections we find within.

Edvard Grieg’s ‘Morning Mood’ sets an evocative landscape, and rarely heard Australian artsong gems by Alfred Hill, William James and Edith Harrhy set our Australian scene. We explore this endearing vibrancy of Australian landscape with Ross Edwards ‘Animisms’ and ‘Nura’. The program drifts into a dream and says goodnight through the bittersweet love story that is Grieg’s ‘Sechs Lieder’, newly arranged for chamber ensemble by Brisbane-based composer Christian Panjaitan. This program is brought to you by the ‘floating’ (Claire Matthews, Classikon) voice of our Margaret Schindler Vocal Scholar Tashana Hardy and the SXS Next Gen Musicians.

Southern Cross Soloists (SXS) are the shining stars of Australian chamber music. Firmly established as one of Australia’s pre-eminent classical music ensembles, SXS delivers programs filled with dazzling virtuosity. Composed of leading virtuosic soloists from Queensland and Australia, SXS provides dynamic, unique, and world-class musical experiences for audiences of all ages. Championing chamber music globally and nationally, SXS, each year, continues to reach new heights. The collaborative nature of the ensemble and its creative direction, ensures a commitment and desire to form long-lasting, diverse cultural partnerships with Queensland’s and, the world’s, most notable musicians, and composers.
